Catalog of Shōdan: Spoken
Dialogue
Voice
Unmetered
A prose conversation between two characters delivered in kotoba. In style, it is similar to a Mondō, but their narratives differ. Often, the Mondō provides some information about the shite’s past and/or identity. The narrative of a Dialogue is more mundane. In Kokaji, it simply concludes the Waki Enters dan without adding new information.
While it is often performed without instrumental support, in Takasago, the two-line Dialogue is accompanied by two percussion instruments, linking the preceding Ageuta with this Dialogue and the following Kuri.
