Catalog of Shōdan
The following partial catalog is limited to shōdan from the plays featured on this website: Takasago, Kokaji and Hashitomi. To prioritize information about musical characteristics several of the shōdan were recorded in a recital-style performance, and the videos were overlaid with simplified notation of the music.
As Okina is a unique ritual play—often considered 'Noh, but not Noh' (a status explained further here)—it is built from sections that are analogous to shōdan but are not shared with the standard repertoire. We have therefore created a separate compendium that collects and analyzes each of these unique shōdan in Okina.
